Natural light and mental health

Updated: Jun 11, 2020

Natural light benefits our mental health tremendously, so incorporating natural lighting within your home is essential. Artificial light lowers the melatonin and hormone levels that are created by the brain within the pineal gland (Jordan 2018). Natural light from the sunlight has many different benefits such as:

  • Boosting serotonin a chemical within your brain that helps your body to be more relaxed and positive

  • The sun produces Vitamin D that supports your bodies nutrients

(Felson 2020)

"Light is essential for our mental health and wellbeing. Ensuring that we receive

adequate levels at the appropriate times of day benefits our altertness,

mood, productivity sleep pattern and many aspects of our psychology."

- Dr Victoria Revell (www.rtor.org)

Make use of natural light within your home open up your curtains and soak in those natural nutrients. The light will generate a relaxing and vibrant mood within your home.
